Matt Cheney, founder & managing partner

Matt Cheney is a Managing Partner and Founder of CP-EM LLC. Mr. Cheney was founder and CEO of MMA Renewable Ventures, LLC, the first solar energy IPP and tax equity syndicator (formed in 2004). MMA Renewable Ventures focused on development, ownership/operation of utility and distributed scale solar, wind, biomass and energy efficiency projects, and syndicating tax equity funds. By 2011, MMA had syndicated over $1 BN of tax equity and debt to its portfolios. MMA was merged with Fotowatio S.A. in 2010 (he continued as CEO), and then with SunEdison in 2011. Mr. Cheney was the CEO of NUON Renewable Ventures and Business Development Director for NUON NV, a Dutch utility based in Amsterdam. He designed and executed NUON’s global renewable energy investment strategy, was regional manager for NUON’s global M&A team. Mr. Cheney himself took NUON Renewable Ventures private in 2004.

Kudra Kalema, Founder & managing partner

Prince Kudra Kalema Kimbugwe of Buganda - Uganda, is an engineer and entrepreneur who creates and invests in socially impactful opportunities in global emerging markets. He is the Managing Partner and founder of CP-EM, LLC, and CP-EM Uganda LTD, which is currently developing a 1GW solar program for Uganda aimed at driving local economic stimulation, job creation and technology transfer. His deep understanding of Ugandan culture and the societies of Eastern and Southern Africa, together with his expertise in social-entrepreneurship, conservation and blockchain technologies, are key to CP-EM’s High Impact, High Return strategy. Prince Kudra is driven by the strong belief that the deployment of advanced engineering paired with community empowerment will play a pivotal role in the development of Africa. His work as a social entrepreneur and innovator serve as illustrative examples of best practices in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.

Bob Fryer, Chief Development Officer

Bob Fryer was previously Managing Partner, CEO of Solar Capital Connections, which has brought over 1 GW of investment grade opportunities to market. Previously Mr. Fryer worked for a large Media Provider for 24 years, where he focused on Marketing and Acquisitions, growing the company from 300 to over 6,000 employees within a 12 year period. Mr. Fryer specializes in originating and vetting investment opportunities. In 2013 he started 212 Solar focusing on coordinating the acquisition/development and investment of 200+ MWs of deals. His focus at Solar Capital Connections (SCC) was providing developer assistance to achieve construction-ready status while bringing investors alongside for project acquisition.
